Dr. Fernando Zúñiga y Rivero
Chairman of the Board

Dr. Zúñiga y Rivero has over 50 years of experience in the energy industry with a particular focus on Peru. He was Chief Geologist for Exxon's operations in northwest Peru, where he was responsible for discovering several oil fields. Dr. Zúñiga later held the positions of Exploration and Production Manager, General Manager, and Chairman and CEO of Petróleos del Peru, Peru's former national oil company, where he discovered five major oilfields in the northern Andean Jungle of Peru. Later, he served as senior project officer of the World Bank for 17 years, planning and implementing hydrocarbon exploration and development projects in 58 countries. Dr. Zúñiga y Rivero holds a Bachelor's Degree in Geological Engineering and Ph.D. degrees from the University of San Agustin, Arequipa, Peru, and completed the Science program in Micropaleontology at UCLA.

Manuel Pablo Zúñiga Pflücker
President and Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Zúñiga-Pflücker is a petroleum engineer who has spent the past 20 plus years in the international oil and gas business, principally with BPZ & Associates, a technical consulting company he co-founded in 1989, which was the predecessor of BPZ Energy. He has specific expertise developing stranded natural gas fields using technologies ranging from power generation to gas-to-liquids technology. Mr. Zúñiga-Pflücker began his career with Occidental Petroleum and has led BPZ Energy since its inception. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maryland, and Master's Degree in Petroleum Engineering from Texas A&M University.

Richard J. Spies
Chief Operating Officer

Mr. Spies brings 34 years of oil and gas experience beginning in 1975 with Amoco. From 1975 to 1990 Mr. Spies held various technical, supervisory, and managerial positions including work in the Gulf of Mexico. In 1990 he was promoted to Vice President of Amoco Argentina and elevated to the position of President of Amoco Argentina in 1992. In 1997 he was appointed as Chief Executive Officer of Pan American Energy, an Amoco (and subsequently BP) joint venture, which during his tenure grew to become the second largest oil and gas producer in Argentina. Pan American held business interests in upstream oil and gas, as well as power generation in Argentina and Bolivia. He managed the growth of production in Argentina from 50,000 barrels of oil per day (Bopd) to over 100,000 Bopd; while simultaneously growing gas production from 200 million to over 800 million cubic feet of gas per day. Most recently, Mr. Spies was President of BP Russia from 2005 until he retired from BP in 2009.

Edward G. Caminos
Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Caminos is a CPA with over 20 years of diversified experience in senior accounting and finance positions, mostly with international energy companies, including Duke Energy, Reliant Energy, Schlumberger and M-I Drilling Fluids. Mr. Caminos began his career with KPMG, and holds a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration-Accounting from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Frederic J. L. Briens
Chief of Strategy and Technology

Dr. Briens is a petroleum engineer with over 20 years operating experience in international oil and gas projects. He was a co-founder of BPZ & Associates, Inc. and has worked for Chevron, Conoco, Schlumberger, Lundin Petroleum, and Perenco. Dr. Briens holds an Advanced Degree in Mathematics from Ecole Centrale de Paris, France, a Master's Degree and Ph.D. in Petroleum Engineering from Texas A&M University as well as an MBA from the University of Colorado.

Tomas Vargas
Vice President - Geosciences

Mr. Vargas is a petroleum geologist with 30 plus years of experience in international exploration in several countries, including Peru, Argentina, and Libya. He has served as Vice President of Geosciences for BPZ Energy since 1997. He obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Geology from the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, and a Master's Degree in Geology from the Instituto Mexicano de Petróleo, D.F. Mexico.

Rafael Zoeger
General Manager, Peru

Mr. Zoeger, based in Lima, Peru, has served as General Manager of the Peruvian operations for BPZ Energy and its affiliates since 1997. He is BPZ Energy's official representative to the Government of Peru. As a professional engineer, Mr. Zoeger worked on both the Camisea and Talara field developments of Peru. He has over 30 years of experience planning, developing and managing oil and natural gas exploration and production projects, including consulting roles with the World Bank. He spent the first 20 years of his career with Petróleos del Peru, the national oil company of Peru. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the Universidad Nacional de Trujillo, Peru.

Durkin Ledgard
General Counsel

Mr. Ledgard serves BPZ Energy as General Counsel. Mr. Ledgard was a Partner of the law firm Eastham, Watson, Dale & Forney, LLP, where he specialized in Admiralty and Maritime law. Prior to joining the law firm in 2001, Mr. Ledgard was an Assistant Counsel in the Office of the General Counsel for the Department of the Navy. Mr. Ledgard has over 25 years of experience in the marine transportation industry and holds an Unlimited Tonnage Master's License issued by the U.S. Coast Guard. He earned his B.S. in Marine Transportation from Texas A&M University in 1982 and his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center in 1992. Mr. Ledgard also serves the Company as Corporate Secretary.
