Mr. Zúñiga Pflücker has spent the last 25 years in the international oil and gas business, ranging from exploitation of marginal oil and gas fields to frontier exploration projects throughout Latin America. His technical background and long standing roots in Peru have been instrumental in helping BPZ Energy establish itself as a leading independent Exploration & Production company in the region. He became President and Director of BPZ upon consummation of the Merger with Navidec, Inc. in September 2004 and in May 2005 he assumed the additional title of Chief Executive Officer. He also served as President of BPZ & Associates, Inc., a technical consulting firm, from 1989 until its Merger with Navidec. Mr. Zúñiga Pflücker began his career with Occidental Petroleum Corporation. He holds a B.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of Maryland as well as an M.S. in petroleum engineering from Texas A&M University.
Richard J. Spies
Chief Operating Officer
Mr. Spies brings 34 years of oil and gas experience beginning in 1975 with Amoco. From 1975 to 1990 Mr. Spies held various technical, supervisory, and managerial positions including work in the Gulf of Mexico. In 1990 he was promoted to Vice President of Amoco Argentina and elevated to the position of President of Amoco Argentina in 1992. In 1997 he was appointed as Chief Executive Officer of Pan American Energy, an Amoco (and subsequently BP) joint venture, which during his tenure grew to become the second largest oil and gas producer in Argentina. Pan American held business interests in upstream oil and gas, as well as power generation in Argentina and Bolivia. He managed the growth of production in Argentina from 50,000 barrels of oil per day (Bopd) to over 100,000 Bopd; while simultaneously growing gas production from 200 million to over 800 million cubic feet of gas per day. Most recently, Mr. Spies was President of BP Russia from 2005 until he retired from BP in 2009.
Richard S. Menniti
Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Menniti is Chief Financial Officer for BPZ Energy. He initially joined the Company as Director of Corporate Finance after a 30-year career with Royal Dutch Shell plc companies in various management roles in the U.S. and abroad. Mr. Menniti's career with Shell progressed through many finance and planning assignments in the Corporate, Upstream, and Downstream areas. His last position was Treasurer of Shell Oil Company and he also previously served as Vice President & Corporate Controller of the Shell / Bechtel venture InterGen, an independent gas and power company with 21 power plants in over 14 different countries. Mr. Menniti holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Bloomsburg University and a Master of Business Administration from Loyola University of New Orleans. In addition, he is a Certified Public Accountant, a Certified Management Accountant, and a Certified Treasury Professional.
Durkin Ledgard
Chief Legal, Commercial & Administrative Officer
Mr. Ledgard serves BPZ Energy as Chief Legal, Commercial & Administrative Officer. Mr. Ledgard was a Partner of the law firm Eastham, Watson, Dale & Forney, LLP, where he specialized in Admiralty and Maritime law. Prior to joining the law firm in 2001, Mr. Ledgard was an Assistant Counsel in the Office of the General Counsel for the Department of the Navy. Mr. Ledgard has over 25 years of experience in the marine transportation industry and holds an Unlimited Tonnage Master's License issued by the U.S. Coast Guard. He earned his B.S. in Marine Transportation from Texas A&M University in 1982 and his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center in 1992. Mr. Ledgard also serves the Company as Corporate Secretary.
